Die New Yorker Malerin Jo Wood-Brown ist eine der Künstlerinnen, die an der Kowald-Mappe mitgearbeitet hat. Sie und ihr Mann Rob Brown, der zur New Yorker Avantgarde Jazz Scene gehört, sind im Juli Gäste im ort.
In einer Begegnung mit der in Taiwan geborenen und in Wuppertal lebenden Tänzerin I-Fen Lin (info/PDF >) werden Jo Wood-Brown und Rob Brown die Performance sounds erarbeiten und präsentieren.
Die Performance sounds ist gleichzeitig die Eröffnung der Ausstellung mit Arbeiten von Jo Wood-Brown.

Sounds is a collaboration between visual artist Jo Wood-Brown, composer musician Rob Brown and dancer I Fen Lin for the performance in Wuppertal, Germany on July 23, 2005. The collaboration is built upon the installations of Wood-Brown that are animated in the video projection. From the athleticism of bodies in motion to the subtly changing repetitive images of the open-mouth singer, Sounds, a work rich with association, fluidly exchanges with the spaces in Brown’s music.
The huge prone tar bodies that move through space allude to death and dreaming and mimic the divisiveness and unreality of death and war. Live music alters the mood of the collected images like commentary, now a proud song, now a guttural lament. JW-B.
